UNT Percussion Ensemble to Perform Free Concert at Percussive Arts Museum March 26
The Percussive Arts Museum will host a performance of the University of North Texas Graduate Percussion Ensemble at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 26, in Lawton. The concert is free and open to the public.
The UNT Graduate Percussion Ensemble is part of one of the largest and most respected percussion programs in the U.S. Comprised of graduate percussion students and some upper-classmen, the 16-member ensemble performs contemporary and classical percussion ensemble literature and has premiered new works. The group includes one Oklahoman, Cody Byassee, Sapulpa, and is directed by Mark Ford, 2004-2005 Percussive Arts Society president.
Musical selections will include "Kalabash" by Nigel Westlake, "The Gilded Cage" by Susan Powell, "Just Buckets" by Brian Justison, and "Valse Brilliante" by George Hamilton Green, and other pieces.
The ensemble performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in 2000 and is working on a recording project and future collaborations with the distinguished Van Cliburn Foundation.
This performance is part of the Percussive Arts Museum Concert Series, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, Oklahoma Arts Council, City of Lawton and the Lawton Arts & Humanities Council.
