Keyboard Committee

Chair: Michael Burritt . E-mail: mburritt@esm.rochester.edu
The Keyboard Committee examines and addresses keyboard issues and topics of concern to the PAS membership. The committee promotes, organizes, and recommends the various keyboard clinics, masterclasses, and panel discussions for each PASIC.

Committee Report and PASIC 2007 Meeting Minutes
Submitted January 15, 2008
by Keyboard Committee Chair Michael J. Burritt
The Keyboard Committee has been working on a repertoire project proposal, and is pleased that the PAS Executive Committee recently approved the proposal to post the repertoire from past panel discussions and international solo competitions on the PAS Website. The committee’s hope is to create a resource for the Society in regards to keyboard repertoire that is valuable both pedagogically and historically. This, in conjunction with the Siwe Guide, should provide members with a comprehensive database for repertoire suggestions and profiles.

The committee has also discussed the importance of continuing to review and update the PASIC Listening Room with keyboard percussion recordings and scores. We have not been active in this regard recently, but plan to work towards making this a priority this year.

PASIC 2007 Meeting Minutes
Committee Members Present: Anders Astrand, Michael Burritt (Committee Chair), Kris Keeton, Marta Klimasara, Frank Kumor, Bill Moersch, Chris Norton, Lisa Rogers (PAS Vice President), Leigh Stevens, James Strain, and Brian Zator.

Committee Meeting Agenda:
1. Welcome and introduction of new committee members
2. PASIC Artist Selection Process
3. Next year’s panel topic?

  1. Debate the validity of a marimba diploma.
  2. Keyboard plus one repertoire
  3. Keyboard Concerti

4. Panel Lists and Competition Repertoire on the website.
5. Other Agenda Items

Meeting Minutes:
PAS Keyboard Committee Meeting @ PASIC 2007, November 2 @ 3:00 p.m.

1. Last year’s minutes were approved.
2. Committee affirmed preference for meeting time (3 p.m. versus 8 a.m. in previous years).
3. Committee welcomed Marta Klimasara from Germany and commended her PASIC performance.
4. James Strain mentioned there is a proceedings page for each PAS committee.
5. Anders Astrand stated that there will probably be a complete overhaul of the PAS website software.
6. Michael Burritt discussed the PASIC selection process with the committee. Much discussion ensued. Burritt will direct the committee how best to review future proposals and artists based on guidelines from the Executive Committee. While the Keyboard Committee itself may submit proposals as well as evaluations on other PASIC keyboard proposal applications, in either case, the committee merely acts as a reference to the Executive Committee who makes the final decisions.
7. Astrand voiced an interest in having PAS provide a room to meet international artists when they perform at PASIC. Leigh Stevens responded that the international artists often do a brief “meet and greet” at their sponsor’s PASIC booth.
8. Panel discussion topics for 2008 were discussed. The two topics that received greatest interest were Keyboard Concerti and Keyboard plus1 Chamber Music. Burritt will email the committee for our final decision.
9. Interest was expressed about having another PASIC Focus Day on marimba.

Notes respectfully submitted by Chris Norton
