International Committee

Fernando Hashimoto, E-mail: ferhashimoto@uol.com.br
The International Committee coordinates efforts and promotes the growth of international membership in PAS by addressing issues pertaining to communication, fiscal matters, philosophy, and visibility. The committee also oversees the administration of the annual PASIC International Student Scholarship.

Committee Report and PASIC 2007 Meeting Minutes
Submitted January 15, 2008
by International Committee Chair Frédéric Macarez
The main activity of the International Committee, its members, and its chair is to continue to develop awareness of PAS throughout the world. If we are able to create links and build knowledge and relationships between people all around the world, everything will be much easier, useful, and productive. Everyone who knows at least one international person interested in percussion should promote PAS.

Agenda items for our PASIC 2007 meeting were: PASIC International Scholarship, communication between International Chapters, continued translation of PAS publications, and an International page on the PAS Website. The committee was happy to report that a session was presented in Spanish for the first time at PASIC 2007.

PASIC 2007 Meeting Minutes

Committee Members Present: Anders Astrand in charge of committee meeting because Frederic Macarez couldn’t attend PASIC this year; others in attendance included Gary Cook, Fernando Hashimoto, and Dave Samuels.

Committee Meeting Agenda:
PASIC 07-COLUMBUS
November 1, 2007-3:00 p.m.

1.      International Scholarship
2.      Communication between International Chapters / Members
3.      Publications  - Translations
4.      Website – International page and International speaking forum
5.      PAS international specific activities  (masterclasses, clinics, academy, etc.)
6.      New ideas, suggestions, options, discussion

Meeting Minutes:
International Scholarship
Consider the scholarship. We have more applicants. We can get information about the scholarship from the website. Chapters get information thru website and e-mail.
Communication
We need to get better with communication between the Chapters, for example, in Europe. For example, Daniela Ganeva tried to send a newsletter, but did not get any reply from other chapters. Communication needs to get better. Easy to work out with the link to all the Chapters on the Chapter Presidents site. Gary Cook pointed out that current listings about events could be done as non-member (i. e. link to other websites, link email, link to other magazines, link to manufacturers). Everybody agreed that is a great idea.
Publications-Translation
Fernando Hashimoto has been doing Spanish translation for the Society, which at least provides basic information. Hopefully, this will continue and international communication will be improved. A big issue is still the available translation software. Discussion ensued about the website. There is no possibility today to check how many readers for particular articles. What about translations for the Asian countries, members in Korea, Japan, etc., and Russia? Could we use university students for these translations? Discussion followed. Fernando Hashimoto will lead a session in Spanish on Saturday, November 3, 2007.
Website
Some discussion.
PAS international specific activities
The idea of international exchanges for students to study was discussed. Having grant monies available for students to study abroad or experience study exchanges between other countries and the United States was discussed further. The committee decided to continue dialogue and follow up.
