Drumset Committee

Chair: Mike Sekelsky . E-mail: drsekelsky@gmail.com
The Drumset Committee organizes and plans the programming of the various drumset clinics and masterclasses for PASIC. Another committee initiative is to conduct film interviews with historically significant drummers around the country for the PAS archives to serve as a source for future generations to use as a research toll, or for general interest.

Committee Report and PASIC 2007 Meeting Minutes
Submitted January 15, 2008
by Drumset Committee Chair Jim Rupp
At this year’s annual committee meeting, the committee members spent time reviewing the various session topics, clinics, and masterclasses presented at PASIC 2007 as well as discussed ideas for future conventions. The committee spent a great deal of time and discussion covering ideas and topics for PASIC 2008. Several thematic ideas were brought up and a panel discussion was proposed.

Additionally, the development of guidelines for PASIC masterclasses was discussed. The committee is hoping to develop a set of guidelines for PASIC drumset artists to utilize for masterclasses. The committee felt that masterclasss sessions should involve discussing a topic for the first 15 to 20 minutes, and then getting students up for lessons after that.

Additionally, the PASIC selection process was discussed. As there are several representatives from the industry on the committee, the committee spent some time discussing how to make the selection process work better from the industry perspective.

The oral history project was enthusiastically discussed, and several ideas came from the discussion. The members felt that it would be great to have at least one session at PASIC 2008 be an interview session with a legendary player or players, which should be filmed for archival purposes. Names of legendary players were brought up, and another group session with some possible drumming legends was discussed. Another idea was to use the historical footage that PAS has through the cooperation of NAMM more effectively. There are a great many, wonderful interviews available from our sister project at NAMM, and making them known to PAS members as well as readily available and usable is a committee goal.
